Salt water well ???

Where would the salt water come from? I believe that coastal water contains more contamination than water far off shore. In that case a well might not be "safe" if it fills from coastal water. But then again I may be wrong. :)

Do you mean hauling the water to a well and using it as storage water? OR, do you mean building a well that will intake water directly from the ocean somehow?

The Marinelife (turtle) Center in Juno Beach used an offshore “well” to draw water from some 50’ out in the Gulf Stream. They were plagued for years with the problems of the shifting sands, sediment clogging the well and sulfurous decay.

Where is there a salty water aquifer around here?

That's what I've always heard too..

I think he is referring to ground"salt"water. In that case, it would depend on the quality of the soil and the source. Most of these wells are 50-300ft in depth. That is a lot of soil/sand to either filter or contaminate. It is also like drilling for freshwater at your home, you're not guaranteed "crystal" clean water, and it may not even be fresh/saltwater (depending what you want).

The Waikiki aquarium in Hawaii uses water from a salt water well, so it is certainly possible. If you were near the water maybe if you drilled horizontally under the salt it would come out NSW.

It was just something I was thinking about . I think I will continue to trek out in the gulf for water . If gas keeps going up I may look into the idea a little more . Ted
