My tAnks finally wet!!! But let me ask you guys,
my tank is a 12 Nano dx. I no I added over 12 lbs. Rock. I used 7 &3/4 gallons water to fill my tank. I 'm sure I 'll need the rest as my rocks sponge up some water. I mixed 8 scoops of salt to my water. Is this correct instead of 12 scoops? I measurednwith gallon water bottles? Also I took the sponges out of 1st chamber. Plan on a skimmer and heater there. 2nd has carbon and 2 of the sponges. And 3rd has rock and stock pump, Will replace pump later.

Why don't you just go to the local fish store and buy saltwwater? its like 50 cents a gallon. And especially with a 12 gallon tank all you need is 2 buckets. saves you a huge hassle of mixing and maybe getting the mix wrong in turn killing your fish and coral IMO.

you should use 8 scoops with a 1/2 cup measuring cup. You will find that most salt mixes will give you a salinity around 1.021 when you mix according to their instructions which is low for my liking.
Just measure with your refractometer and all will be well. If it comes out too high or low... no big deal just adjust accordingly.

I personally would never buy my water from a lfs. When you do it yourself you can ensure that the rodi is coming out w a tds of 0 and that you used a quality brand of salt. With a lfs they could be overdue on changing out their rodi filters and may try to get away with using a substandard salt.

I don't know if you have a petco near you but they sell real ocean water by Catalina Water Company in 5G boxes. Considering the size of the tank it isn't too expensive, $12 for 5 gallons. My nano tank has only been up for a few weeks but I took my water in today to my LFS to have them test it and he said my tank water was some of the cleanest he has seen in a long time.

In addition the salinity of the Catalina H20 has measured 1.025-1.026.

For me the hassle free aspect to it is huge plus I have been very pleased with it thus far.

Thank guyes, I don't mine mixing myself. I 'm new to salt and I'm just to excited to feel Hassled yet. I want to learn the right way to do everything the long way.
