How big is your mixing tank? I have a MAG 7 pump running on a 42gal. BRUTE trash can (also mounted externally as a closed loop) and it seems to do the job well. I even have it set up so that the MAG will pump the new salt water to my sump via garden hose 30 ft. away!
I use a mj1200 on a 44 gallon brute and it works perfect. I think either of those pumps would be just a waste of money unless you have a 300 gallon SW mixing vat.
I use a Mag 5 in a 32 gal for my pre-made salt water and a mj1200 in my 32 gal RO/DI tank. Will likly upgrade my mj1200 to a MAG 5 some day just to get better circulation.
I agree with Hop. I think anything over 10x turnover in your mixing container is prob. not necessary, and a waste of electricity unless you want to use the same pump to pump the new-mixed water to your sump if it's a long distance away.
