Saltwater spill and carpet odor

I lost about 3 gallons of water from my tank over the last few days and it saturated the carpet around my tank. I have had fans running but I am experiencing a fishy odor.

Any suggestions??? Fans have been running for 24 hours and the carpet appears almost dry. The padding has a plastic lining so I am pretty sure it is not in the padding.

Any ideas to remove the odor.

Thanks

Harvey

drop some towels all over and have it soak up all the water...keep blowing the fans on. I used some carpet freshener that u vacuum up after...worked well.

Good ol' A&H baking soda works like a charm. Pour it all over the spill area and work it in with a broom or brush. Leave it there until the area is completely dry. If the area is already dry just leave it there for a day. Vacuum it up and the smell should be gone. Don't use that Love My Carpet stuff. While its probably the same as baking soda, the perfumes could transfer to your tank water within any dust that gets kicked up. Baking soda is completely safe and if any happens to get into your water it will only buffer your tank :D

This happened to me over the weekend also. My carpet got wet with 7 gals, mostly my top off water. Luckily it happened early in the morning and I was able to correct things before I lost any more water. I had a carpet cleaner handy and I sucked up as much water as possible. It took me about 4 hours to suck most of the water though. Ill try to A&H to control any odors.

you can never really get all the water out cause when you spill theres no way to get it all out and when the water evaporates the salt will stay dry, untill there gets to be a little humidity or you spill water again then it will sit there dry up and repeat the proccess so if you think about it you cant really get all the water up EVER~
