Saltwater storage

one thing to consider..... if you have a septic tank, do not plumb the waste line into the drain. the amount of waste water produced can eventually overflow the tank. I just run my waste right out the window and into the woods.

I have never had a problem with the waste line into my septic.

I’m on a septic tank as well. It makes 4 gallons of waste water for each gallon of di water? So on a 100 gpd unit I would be wasting 400 gallons of water?

That's about right but how much do you actually need to make? On my 90g I use about 20 gallons a week but I have the dual membrane kit (150gpd) so it's a 2 to 1 ratio so I waste about 40 gallons a week. Without the dual membrane it would be 80 gallons.
Thanks for the pics rye, very helpful. Anyone else has pics?
You're welcome [emoji16]

I am still setting up a 90 gallon with a 40 gallon sump. I've only bought water from the LFS for my KPAquatics live rock in a 30 gal. I will need 100 plus gallons to start out with and then whatever is needed for water changes. I guess around the same amount you use. The 90 is dry until I finish the stand; I have a toddler so everything is slow going.

When I moved I did the same thing, brought every five gallon bucket I could get my hands on to the fish store and filled it up for convenience sake.

Sde, how much waste water goes to your septic when you make water?

My unit is 3-4x waste I think. So 3-4 gallons in the septic for every gallon I make. Being on a well helps too since that water really just goes right back to me. Been doing it 3 years now, never had a problem with my septic. I also make about 30 gallons at a time, to fill my top off brute or my nsw brute. Though not all septics systems are created equal, so as always Your Mileage May Vary.

I Have city water and septic sewage. Septic is 24 years old and I'm scared to throw it off balance and have a flood. Between showers, laundry and baby times needing washed I already use a lot of water.

I am pondering the waste line going through the wall and into a gutter drainage pipe that runs to a ditch by the street but it will probably freeze in the winter so that probably won't work.

The line doesn't freeze?

nope, just every time im done with the RODI I roll the line back up into the house.

I have never had a problem with the waste line into my septic.

I was always told don't put that much water into the septic. I also make 44 gallons every other week, and fill about 20 gallons worth of top off a week.

I've had my waste water going to my septic, so far so good, although my septic is over 500 gallons. Don't forget any "grey" water gets leached back out into the ground.

I would just recommend you take it slow making your water, maybe 20 gallons a day. Overnight the waste water should have leached away by then.

I'll take a pic of how I have my RODI set up.

As promised here is how I have my RODI setup

This is my 7 stage system setup under our folding table in the mud room. We're on a well which is why I use a 7 stage system and a booster pump.

This is where the system is tied in, brass T with a push fitting hose adapter, I added the shut off valve to avoid any leaks while I'm away.

This thread is getting a bit old so you probably have it figured out by now but I said I'd post pics and here they are. :)

Thanks tjm!! Still don’t have a plan so pics are still very helpful!! I’ve been comparing all the different BRS units. I know my city uses chloramines but I don’t know if there is a high level of them. I don’t want to shell out for the “big” BRS unit if I don’t really need that much filtration. The 5 stage BRS unit says okay for small amounts of chloramines and the 6 stage is for harder to remove stuff “like chloramines”. What’s small amounts?? I think I’m going to run the waste line to a sump pump that pushes water to a gutter drain, which ultimately ends up in a city sewer down the street.

Any input? I think 75 gpd is sufficient, I just need the right amount of filtration without wasting so much water. Is there a water quality expert on this forum? I can post water test results if there is.

Yes 75gpd is probably more than enough but if you're concerned about wasting water then I'd go with a BRS water saver system that uses two 75gpd membranes and only uses half the waste water a regular 75 gpd system would use
