same old skimmer question

I know you've seen a million of these threads because i have. I am looking for a HOB skimmer. I was convinced that the remora was gonna be the skimmer for me but the more i looked the more bad comments i saw on them. i know the skimmer debate will never be resolved but does anyone have a suggestion on a quiet HOB skimmer that is under $250?

Take a look at the turboflooter 1000. You can put a OR needle wheel it and they work well. They are a little over rated on the gallons but if you are putting it on a 37gal tank, no problem.

I think in the under $250 range the remora will be one of the more reliable HOB skimmers out there. I have used 2 remoras and 2 remora pros and for a HOB skimmer I felt they did a good job. My remora pros did do a lot better job than the regular though. I now use an in sump skimmer and it way out performs all the remoras but for HOB I like them. Look on the for sale forum or ebay and you can probably get a remora Pro for $150 or so. You won't have to worry about overflowing like some others out there.

A buddy of mine just got the Tunze DOC Skimmer 9005 (9005.000). It will max out your limit of $250... He loves it though. I think alot of people over look the Tunze skimmers.

I have read a lot of good things about the Tunze DOC skimmers as well. I have not tried one though.

is the turbofloter fairly quiet? what pump does it normally come with?
