Sand Addition

I have a tank with a 2" sand bed. The sand is the sugar sized argonite. Is it ok to add sand to this bed. I will be adding Agramax live sand, but the sand size is 1 - 2 mm instead of the sugar sized.

I am going to the larger sized sand bed because I am tired of getting sand storms, or the sand all at one end of the tank.

Should I just add the larger sand, or should I remove the sand I have and replace it all, not a problem removing it all. I can use the sugar sized sand in a new refurium that I am building.

You can easily add it over the existing sand. Just do it slowly over the source of a few weeks even, to allow worms/pods etc to move up higher in the sand. So an inch one week, an inch the next etc etc.

You're likely to get small algae blooms in the new sand. Add a spoonful every few days. You don't say the size of tank: I am assuming a 20. Scatter the patches of new sand. And have snails and hermits on standby.
