Sand beds

What is the best depth for a sand bed. I have researched many books , and they all have diferent oppinions, some say 1-2 inches , some say 3 inches , one even says 6 inches for proper nitrat circulation. What r your opinions.

i have about a 3 inch in mine and never had a problem. you will keep a ton of differant opinions on this subject. I also run a ref with a 6 inch SB in it. Do you plan on running a ref?

mine is about 4-5" around my 120 and I'll never again have a bed this high. From now on it's 2" max

I've seen reef tanks using bare bottom up to 6" deep sand beds. It all works. I personally like a 2-3" deep bed. Just make sure you have lots of critters to help keep it turned over. I also vacuum my sand bed regularly, something that many folks would not necessarily agree with.
