Sand or Crush corals for a S.gigantea?

I just pick up a S.gigantea and not sure if it need sand or not? I am running a bare bottle tank at the moment and planned on adding crushed coral, larger size like #10, as a substrate. But I am reading everywhere that a S.gigantea needs a sandy bottom. The nem looks happy and its foot is firmly attached to the bottom of the tank wedged under a rock. It wedge itself under there and seems really happy.

So sand or crushed corals for a S.gigantea?

thanks in advance!
Michael

PS I am so glad I picked this one up!

Neither sand OR crushed coral.

S. gigantea is a rock anemone. It will be happy on your rocks. If it is down at the bottom of your tank it will want to wedge itself in between the bottom rocks and the bottom of your tank. It does not need sand at all in order to be happy.

Thanks for the info BonsiNut! What I wanted to hear. First bare bottom tank but I like the clean bottom look.

your tank look new, not a prime condition to house carpets, particularly gigs.

regardless, best of luck to you.
