Sand purchase

Oh - I forgot to mention. Group buys take a little time to put together. So - if you need the sand now please do not wait on me as this will take a few more days. Most of the local LFS have a variety of sand and sand particle sizes (live and dry).

I was looking into it on that other thread but it didnt seem to get anywhere. I need to buy around 700 pounds also. I dont mind driveing to the tampa area to pick it up at your house either. I wouldnt even mind riding down with you to pick it up and help load and unload it. I just want to be apart of the bulk buy.

various sizes would be great.. id like mine to be a little larger in size than pure aragonite.... if possible...

Yes, we are trying to get various sizes as I really don't like the pure aragonite, but I know some do so I'm trying to offer that as well. Right now I'm trying to get sizes in the following ranges:

Grain size: 0.1-.75mm (This is the aragonite reef sand)

Grain size: 1.2-1.7mm (This is also agragonite reef sand but a size up)

If anyone is interested in viewing these before purchasing I know John (FAOIS) and other LFS in the area have this size sand in stock.

lusenut2 - you are more than welcome to go in on this with us. When you have a large tank to fill every penny counts and we are trying to get the best price possible.

Awesome. I cant wait. Im getting everything together for a 220 that im ordering. I want 500 pounds of the 0.1 - .75mm. And 200 pounds of 1.2 - 1.7mm

Lusenut2 - I'll put you down for that and once I know the prices we can finalize everything.

Like I said - this is just to get a # so if something did happen or you found a better deal you still have time to let me know. I'm guessing by tomorrow I should have a firm price - right now I would say it will be in the .$50 to .$58/lb range with hopefully a choice of grain size.

Joe, do you have any idea how much you will be needing?

i definitely need 200lbs of either size. maybe 100lbs of each to give me a nice natural effect...:)

Thanks again, i agree with the every penny counts because im a college student with a below average income so every little bit helps.

Mark

Very good Mark - I'll put you down for 200lbs and tentative on the 50/50. We can go back and get the final when we get closer to a price and a for sure on the choices.

Now I'm getting really excited - this was my last big hurdle with my tank - without breaking the bank and we just might have it. I agree with every penny counts and you know it will just go right back into the tank in one form or another. - :D funny how that works.

At .58 a pound we can get it cheaper from a guy in ft. peirce. His price to us reef club member is 15 bucks a bag and its 30 pounds a bag, and he will give us a bigger discount the more we buy and cheaper again if we pick it up. so we might be able to get for around 12 bucks a bag or so. You want me to check into that. If not I dont care either way its just a thought.

Lusenut2 - If it's the guy Pompano Beach that is the very fine sand and I'm not really interested in purchasing. I've been researching different vendors in Florida, where some are cheaper someone needs to pick it up. For us that is 8+ hours of travel and gas for a big truck. We did a group buy last Feb and after traveling it ended up being .48/lb. For me and I believe most of the people here locally (Tampa Bay) saving a few cents isn't worth all the travel time. This was the reason I was hesitant to include people from the other coast - you have a very short travel time compared to us. That would bring the price down for the people on the other coast. As I stated I do not have a firm price yet, it is still between 50 - 58 cents/lb - not .58 cents.

Thank you for your interest and anyone wanting to go with the Orlando group purchase please do so as it might be a little cheaper. Also if it is from Pompano Beach you will need to really clean the sand before putting it into your tanks and it is only the very fine sand. With me getting 700# I'd rather pay a little extra, get what I want and not have to spend a week or more cleaning it.

You have a very good point there. Im down with going on what you guys are getting. It was just a thought. Let me know when I need to have my money to you, like I said if you need someone to ride down with you, I dont mind making the trip to help out.

lusenut2, it really is a lot of time traveling and after getting a message from the store at Pompano Beach "Make sure you rinse the sand extensively before use" - I just don't want to spend that much time and effort. Also remember you then have to pay for the water that would be used to rinse all the sand - so I would have to add that into the equation. I'm trying my best to get the best deal here in the Tampa Bay area. In the long run for us it's a better choice. We'll have a choice of sand, the sand that I'm looking at right now has been "Heat Sterilized" so you know what is going into your tank and we are looking at a competitive price - so for. I'm still in the process of researching all the possibilities but after adding it all up my local contact might be the best. I'll keep you on the list and once we finalize the deal I'll post our choices and prices.

OK - here's the deal. I'll lay the ground work before giving the price.

Our order needs to be over 2000lbs. (That will not be a problem)

Your total sand weight must be divisible by 20 (They are coming in 20lb bags)

We will need to pick it up the same day it is delivered (Or make arrangements with me if you absolutely cannot make the drop date â€"œ I know the out of town people might have a problem â€"œ I’ll work with you as it might be on a weekday, most likely on a Thursday)

John at FAOIS has agreed to have the pallets delivered to his store. They will be placed at the front - that's the reason they must be removed the same day. I have guaranteed John that his lot will be clean and all sand would be removed the same day.

You will need to pay either with cash or Paypal and I will be the contact person.

I will need 50% of your total up front as good faith and the remaining total at pickup. If you do not make arrangements with me and you do not show up to pick up the sand on delivery day â€"œ it will be sold to others and you will lose the good faith deposit. This way I’m not stuck with 1000lbs in my garage for two months.

Here ‘s my Paypal account if you are not able to pay me in cash - send payment on PayPal to rjohnsen@ix.netcom.com.

Here is the cost:
How does .393/lb sound, this means the total for a 20lb bag is 7.86 This includes sales tax :D. This is the total no other charges.

Here’s the information on the sand and this is their web site:
