So I have an sps dominate tank, pickup some pink fiji sized sand and it is getting blown all over the tank. What would be the minimum size grade of sand that'll tolerate the flow.
I think it's going to be very hard suggestion wise.
You have roughly a 55 X turnover in a smallish box.
If there is any water movement direct or indirect towards the sand it's going to move.
I have to be careful in my 6 footer or the glass makes an appearance & I have no where near that kind of flow.
BB might be in the cards.
Put your sand in a fuge or remote DSB, it works better that way with high-flow tanks. My 75 has a disgusting amount of flow in it but a 40B fuge hooked up to the same sump. It's basically an RDSB with macro and trees in it.
I have a standard 75 gallon with roughly 5500 gph of flow. Right now the tank is empty while the rock cures but with Tropic Marin Reef Flakes, everything stays on the bottom. No sand storms at all. Hope that helps
