I've been off this forum for a while, but slowly getting back in. I've got a 180g tank. It was a reef tank until Hurricane Sandy hit. Since then, it's a FOWLR tank so it's been up and running for 3 years. I've got 3 AquaIllumination Sol Blue LED's lighting the tank.
Over the past few months, I've been having a problem with the sand bed turning brown during the course for the day. Looking at the sand before the lights come on, the sand bed looks pretty white, but as the light intensity increases, the bad turns brown. Looks like diatoms but I would think with a 3 year old tank, I'd be past that. A couple of things I might add:
- My RO system has been on the blink for several weeks so my top-off has basically been tap water.
- My clean-up crew needs upgrading.
- One of my MP40's has been out of commission.
Could all of this issues been causing the sandbed problem? Could it be my lighting as well? Don't have any water parameters to to offer at this point.
