sand?

I am using 200 lbs. of koloscape sand. Its I think "southdown"? Regardless it seems to be working real good. My nassurius snails and dragon goby love it. No algae breakouts because of the sand and so far no glass scratches due to the sand. The beauty of it all is that it only cost me $15.

Great deal

I got my from our local landscape supply store. But believe it or not I think I my have seen some at Walmart the other day.
Good luck and don't be afraid of what people will say because you're not spending hundreds of dollars in the "proper sand"

You can buy pulverized limestone at lowes or HD and it will work fine for just a few bucks. It's calcium base sand and looks good. Not quite as white as the LFS sand, but real close. It's in the outdoor dept. with the edging blocks and garden stuff.

I just got 200lbs of Quikrete from Ben's recommendation. No problems in his 180, so I'm giving it a try too...

With using this sand you should always rinse it and use live sand to seed it. Good luck.
Excellent advise I forgot to toss in. Picked up that blue tote in the pic too for that reason, only $4!:eek2::cool:

Sorry about thread-jacking Mike ;) hopefully you got an good idea though lol.

Here is the limestone, it cost about the same as quickcrete, and is calcium based so it will help keep your PH stable and calcium levels up.
