sandbed depth for goby/shimp?

how deep of a sandbed do i need for a yashia goby/tiger pistol combo?

They just dig a little burrow/pit out under a rock. They shouldn't need more than an inch or two. Not like a jawfish that needs 4+ so it can dig a vertical cave.

My original sand bed depth is about 1 1/2-2". The pistol rearranges the majority of my sand bed in my 30g tank on a nightly basis. Just be sure to provide some rubble/crushed coral along with your sand bed for the pistol to use. They like to use larger pieces of rubble to contruct and entrance to their burrow. Mine has three entrances under one rock.
