Sandstorm

Long story short noob mistake by not rinsing the sand thoroughly because Marcosand was too fine and I was losing it all. I have tried letting all the sand settle without any of my equipment on, but every time I turn everything back on it continues to cloud. Is there anything I can do about this? I am running carbon and my skimmer is on and working overtime. I am going to be cycling soon and I would like to be able to see inside the tank before I start. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I would put in some filter socks, turn on the powerhead and ride out the storm.. you are only cycling.. got 3 month to clear it out. no need to "see" anything in this period

Mine did the same thing. I used a filter sock and cleaned it every other day. I also drained the sump a couple of times and cleaned all the silt from the bottom. Just keep cleaning and mine cleared up in a couple of weeks.

Sand will also settle better once the individual grains get a bacterial coating, ie, as it begins to cycle. But meanwhile use that sock to get as much fine dust out as possible: it makes sludge.

I had the same problem. I ran everything through a quadruple filter sock setup, stirring the sand and cleaning out the socks every day or every other day. Couple of weeks and it's all clear.

I'm gonna continue to run the can and I have a 200 micron sock on the way. It'll clear up eventually haha

Removed the old sand. It was just too fine and I couldn't see any progression. This is only one night after removal.
