I know this does not compare to people who lost everything due to hurricane sandy but have been without power since Monday and everything in my tank has pasted away. Girls where crying because there pair of clownfish past away

After seeing all the devastation and thinking of all the money i have spent on my system, my next purchase is a generator.. sorry for your losses..

Sorry about that.
Same thing happend to me last year .... when hurracaine hit NJ .. This time i have 2 genrators one for the house and 1 for the Tanks.. , but we where lucky power was never really lost, 2 -3 hours most,,

I'm sorry, that's awful....I would think you could as long as you keep it in SW and plan for a new cycle in case stuff dies off on it.

sorry for your losses, but Glad to hear you are thinking about getting back in the game.

my power came back on, but i wasn't sure how much longer i could have kept it going. I'm convinced my MP10 saved the tank. at the last moment I wired up a 12V battery that kept it running at 20% for the 3 days I was out of power. my friends tank didn't fare as well, he lives by the beach and his tank is under water and the fish are back in the ocean they came from.

You would be amazed at what a car power converter, long power cord and car battery can accomplish. As long as you keep running your car for 5 minutes to recharge the battery. I did this last year for 3 days and didnt lose one thing. They are cheap and easy to get. Just need someone there while the power is out.

Granted a generator is the way to go, but not always an option if someone doesnt have the money.

I lost power for two days and I was floating a whistler tea pot (thank god for propane) and stirring the water by hand. I made it ok, but I feel so bad for the folks who had serious damage and loss.

Yep thats what i used the last time the power was off for four days. My car battery, a inverter, and i just ran the car 5 minutes every hour to keep the battery charged.

So the tank is up n running. I believe I was able to save my frogspawn, orange hammer and 2 acan's. I have them in the tank now but I hope there is not to much die off. I will test the water and do water changes. I also have aquamaxx skimmer running along with 2 next reef reactor's one with carbon and the other with phosban. I hope this will help

sorry to hear about your loss especially with kids it stinks. battery powered air pump and turkey baster kept my 27 gallon going for 2 days. temp dropped to 68 before electric kicked back on. everything made it through. we couldnt find a generator or inverter around here.

Sorry for your loss.

I'm in the same boat, I lost my red sea heniochus after 7 days of outage (It lived 7 days). I still have no power. Its freezing in my house and I'm typing from my University.
I am still angry about this. I scrambled to find a generator knowing nothing about one and they were all sold out. I was just hoping I wouldn't wake up to a dead fish and Voila.
What sucks even more is liveaquaria isn't selling my species of fish anymore.

Out power company is too slow. 7 daysand still no results... seriously
Learned a lesson from Irene my ***, where is our power!
I have seen my local business with power but houses are still dark.
Is money all they see..

Screw sandy and our power company!
Sorry won't cut it, say that to my dead fish.

So sad to hear about your losses. Generators are a great stand by to have. If you have insurance you should add your tank/s to the policy for loss of power. We lost power a few years ago and found out that everything that in the fridge was covered by the insurance, after some info gathering we found out that you can cover the tank as well (at no added cost). I now have a generator, battery backups for my vortechs, battery air pumps on standby, and we keep receipts.

What I would do with the live rock is treat it like it is fresh uncured live rock in the tank and cycle your tank as if starting from scratch. Watch for Phosphates as often times after a tank crash you will load up the rocks with them. But other than that I hope you’re able to rebuild better then want you had.

Today I was able to run to my local pet store n pick up carbon. So I now have both reactors running one with carbon n the other with phosban. I am using one of the stock pumps to run both reactors. On a good note my frogspawn, 2 acan's n orange hammer r all looking great.

I went bare bottom so I could get more flow without blowing the sand all around. The two stock pumps run all the time and the mp 10 runs on reef crest at 100%
