Sargassum??????

It can be used for nutrient export, if you get it to grow quickly enough. What seems common with reefers and this algae is that it will grow very well for a few weeks, and then quickly dwindle away. It seems to like lots of light.

It can be a pest on live rock if it sprouts up from it. A lot of herbivores find it tasty though, so it is more often than not easy to control without manually removing it.

I love the genus but it's been a pest algae and needs pruning and removal to maintain over time.

Some of the colder water species fair well, but you need cold temps as well.

I float it in veg filter and it do very well for a time. That was under 6500K 250W Iwasaki in a high-efficiency reflector mounted about 4" away. It likes a lot of light, IME. It dwindled away over time, with Chaeomorpha and Caulerpa peltata emerging as dominant. Then the Chaeto and Caulerpa fade and Acanthophora do best. Best to try to maintain a variety of algae for export IME, as none are dominant in all conditions.

I have some growing off of live rock in the main tank. Fish don't eat it. Mine grows pretty quick and I cut it back every month. I keep it for some variety and nutrient export.
