Saturday's club meeting

Thanks to all who attended the RARE club meeting Saturday night.

We began the evening with introductions and discussed many things relating to growing a strong club, as well as how a club benefits not only the members but also the local reef shops.

These benefits include networking between members and other clubs, special events such as frag swaps, shop discounts which not only benefit the members but also drive sales for the local shops, side trades and sales, and finally but definitely not the least, starting a DBTC (don't break the chain) program modeled after similar programs in the Bay Area and Sacramento which would help promote captive propagation and provide a source of popular and hard to find corals for members while creating a backup reserve to assure that if the coral is lost to one member it will not be lost forever.

Bringing the RARE website back to being current was discussed and it was affirmed that there is a need for a method of online communication. For the time being we will communicate via the Reef Central RARE sub-forum.

A main activity at each meeting such as frag demonstrations, area specific instruction, and guest speakers will be a focus.

Out of town road trips will be a fun way to build camaraderie and add harder to find corals to our reefs.

It was decided to continue with having a member tank tour after each meeting. Greg has offered not only to host the tank tour for next month, but give an informative talk about calcium, alkalinity and magnesium supplementation via the Balling Method.

The meeting was finished off with a free raffle consisting of donated frags from members and gift certificates from the 2 local shops - Aquariums Plus and The Deep. Many thanks to all who contributed.

The next meeting will be Saturday the 12th of December, and will be the 1st Saturday of each month thereafter. The meetings will be at 7PM at Round Table Pizza in the Mount Shasta Mall.

Karen and I live in the same area and the club visited both of our reef tanks after the meeting.

Good times!

Thank you Scott and Karen!

Your tanks have refreshed the interest in our tanks!

Megan and I were very excited about the meeting. I was impressed with the turn out. We are looking foward to the next.
