Save a Coral

Guys,

Can you answer me this simple question :-

I took a coral off a friend tonight to try and save in my tank, its some sort of Softie, Kenya / Tree coral.

My question is that it seem to be really withdrawn and not half the size it used to be, do corals generally pick up if in better surroundings ? Would this have a good chance as my corals seem to be fine. Do softies recover well ?

The better question might be "what's wrong with your buddies tank?". IMO easier to fix the problem than move it.

They may be a little shy for a few days just because it switched environments...even if it's a better environment...give it a week, then I'd worry.

I'm betting that there was nothing wrong with it in your buddies tank. from time to time leathers will shrink up and look REALLY bad (sometimes for weeks) when they shed.

Signs of shedding--might need more flow (or my remedy a turkey baster) to shed the skin. Don't blast to hard

Softies will shrink down to a fraction of their original size for several days or more. Just keep an eye on it and try to put it in approximately the same location so it doesn't have light acclimation issues. Good luck!

what are your thoughts ???

That's what they look when they're stressed/moved. Should take a couple of days, it looks fine thoug, my leather looks like that a few times a month an I have it for 2+ years.

Medium flow, medium-high light. Might want to watch out for those toadstools. They might not appreciate the new coral so close to them. They pack a pretty nasty punch.

another suggestion is if you move it away from the toads leave it there for a while, the more you move the more upset it will be causing it to talke longer to open :)

Maybe the salinity, just give it some time before sending it back to him. You may even take a frag of it incase he loses his, you will have it growing in your tank.

I think i will, we ususally do that for each other anyway.

To solve his problem, I gave him all my R/O so he can drop the salinity over a period of time.

Is that a possible reason why the coral seems unhappy ?
