SAVE! Colored up S. gigantea

Just wanted to share some pics of an S. gigantea that I have had for just over 18 months now. I picked up this guy for 50 bucks in September of 2007. The first shot of it is how it looked immediately after I brought it home. The LFS had it under two VHOs, and was feeding it krill every day. Since I saw it show a strong feeding response, despite its obvious bleached appearance - I had to give it a shot. Also, it wasn't COMPLETELY white so I thought there was some zooxanthallae still alive.

So at any rate it went under 400W of 14K halides, about 24" deep and took around 6 months to come around. The first shots were within the first week or two, the other shots came in September of 2008...it took almost an entire year to color up the way it is pictured in the second set of photos.

I had been looking for this type of anemone - it being a natural host for the percula complex clowns. It definitely was a risk that paid off.

If you have any questions, let me know - I'd be happy to share!

I am planning on posting some new photos of the underside of the nem...some pretty sweet veruccae (sp?) that are purple.

On one of my cameras are some progression shots I took every couple weeks, so I am going to try to post transition photos from bleached to recovered.

So here's the pics. Enjoy!
