While it is admiralable that you decided to not keep the clowns and anemone after realizing you did not have the appropriate setup for them, I wish you would have brought them back to the lfs instead of putting them unto the ocean. The later would have only been acceptable IMO if your lfs only stocks locally, freshly captured livestock. Where are you located, and what species of clowns did you have? If I remember, you has a Cindy anemone, and unknown clowns (likely percs or ocellaris). These do not occur naturally together, so the region was incorrect for at least one of them. While it is an ocean, releasing non-native species into an area is poor practice. Would if be ok to release a lion into the grasslands of Nebraska? Both are grasslands, but many factors suggest this would be very bad. In my opinion, once in captivity, always in captivity for anything in our tanks.
Yes, there is a lionfish problem right now, but I believe it has mostly been traced back to six lionfish that escaped from a broken aquarium during hurricane Andrew.
