Saw Gorgeous Black Tangs Today

I saw a black tang in person for the first time today, jet black eyes and body, only a tiny white spot. Beautiful and costly! Sorry to say that I didn't get a decent picture to share but will post the pic I did get. Darn fish just don't want to hold still for a pic

My LFS has two. The smaller, about 3.5", is jet black and he wants $799 for it.

My other LFS got an acquaintance of mine a ~3.5" BT for $350!! He shops there a lot and the LFS sold it to him for at cost. He ordered it and it took a couple of weeks. Showed him the invoice too and it was $350.

I might consider getting one later after my tank settles down with my new additions and removals. Not paying more than 450 for it though.

They want $499 ea for the two they have at the LFS here in the OC. They are nice but I would die if a fish I paid that much for died. I opted for a nice Coris Wrasse

Black tangs are passive?? I thought they are aggressive.

live aquaria had one last week marked down from $3499 to $2999. They'll knock another 500 off that soon and by mid June it'll sell for 1500 or so. I just cannot bring myself to spend that much on 1 fish and besides - am already tanged out in my DT. But they are stunning though

In South Africa gem tangs are cheaper than black tangs

live aquaria had one last week marked down from $3499 to $2999. They'll knock another 500 off that soon and by mid June it'll sell for 1500 or so. I just cannot bring myself to spend that much on 1 fish and besides - am already tanged out in my DT. But they are stunning though

Don't count on that buddy... 1500 is less than what they probably paid for that fish.

Our lfs has had a few in going from 400gbp( 700$) to £4000, gem tangs, while still expensive tend to be in the low hundreds over here.

I know the Mauritius colector and the price is more than £400 for one it must be old prices

My bad, I stand corrected, must have misread, went back and checked.... It was the low thousands ( £2400)..
