I was digging around at the thought of adding some green to my tank and read that sawblade is better than grape algae, is any algae good for the display by chance, just curiious. Blas

Hmmmm...........I don't know what sawblade is but of you want some green in your tank, why not? :) There is that one green plant that uses quite a bit of calcium that looks nice. I would not do the grape cuz it can get aggressive with your rock.

I had sawblade macro in my main tank for a long time. I kinda liked the way it looked, as long as you keep it pruned. It stays pretty compact to the rock. (it doesn't take over)

Now it only grows in the fuge. Kirsten, here's a pic:

If you have a choice, I think halimeda is the best green display algae. I think it is what you are talking about Kirsten, it's a coraline algae that grows like a plant, with flat green plates that connect. Out of all of the caulerpa I have had, the sawblade was the least sucessful, which I guess makes it a good candidate, but there's always a chance of it going sexual if it's not under 24h lighting. The feather and grape caulerpa grow stolloniferous runners with very strong holdfasts, almost impossible to control, they're like the bermuda grass of the sea.

I saw little bundles of Halimeda at Aq Arts this afternoon. They want $15 for a bunch the size of a tennis ball. It does look nice, I will probably put some in my fuge at some point.

I would avoid caulerpa in the display. It is a great grower in the fuge, but it is ugly when it trys to spread.

The sawblade caulerpa is one of my favorites. It would be great in a display. It is slower growing compared to the other caulerpas and the holdfasts are not as invasive as other types, so pruning is a breeze. It is called Caulerpa serrata.
Cheers

Grape caulerpa is pretty nasty when it's in the display. Just last week I had to throw away a gallon zip loc bag full of the stuff. It looks like in another week it'll be back!
