SC Aquariums Owners Thread

Small hick up with my sca302 skimmer. It was making very small whining sound. I thought it might need cleaning. I took it apart, cleaned thoroughly. Put it back together and stopped working. After some cursing and couple try outs, I figured out the impeller gets loosened. A drop of crazy glue made sure that it stays on. Working perfectly without any sound. I was about to go get another one. 😀

Thought I would go ahead and share a photo I took today of my 66gal. I am now getting to the stage of just waiting and letting things grow in.

well guys after getting one of there 150's i decided it was to much and i did not enjoy it as much cause it was down stairs where i couldnt see it all the time.. so ive sold that setup and will be building a 66 setup to go back upstairs!

I have a question for all owners who bought the whole set- do you use the canopy top? It didn't come with any instructions and even though I built it anyway, I have no idea how it's supposed to sit on top of the tank. I don't use it but would love to know if anyone does and how do you sit the canopy on top of the tank. Thanks.

I have a question about these tanks. It looks like there are slot openings near the bottom of the overflow. Do these allow water to flow through? Is it possible the whole tank could drain if there is an issue with any of the standpipes?

I ordered this set up the other day and hopefully will get it in the mail next week sometime - I'll take pictures and post them.

I was able to get a 20% off coupon from them and got the whole set up with walnut wood stand and canopy.

Any suggestions on the lighting for this tank? I've been looking at the current usa marine pro led light that just came out a few days ago.

Turned off my return pump at least a hundred times, and no worries of it starting a siphon. Those lower slots move into a false wall, like a crawl space built within the overflow wall, the water is sucked in low, then moves up to the top where the running water from the top overflow causes the suction pull. Once the return pump is turned off and no new water is skimming across the top overflow that suction related to that false wall water passage way ceases.

Overflow is made of glass and covered with black acrylic box. The opening you saw was light leaking through the clear glass behind the black box. There is no real opening there.

Mine definitly pulls water, watch food flakes get sucked in daily.

What you are seeing is a lower intake for the over flow. as stated the over flow is made of glass with a black acrylic sheild over it. in the front part of the over flow there is about 1/4" gap between the acrylic and the glass. when the system is running the water running over the top of the over flow will creat a syphon effect and will draw water in from the bottom and pull it to the top and into the over flow. with the system shut off the way its made there would be no way for it to drain your tank down! the system works really well on my 150!
