SC Aquariums Owners Thread

Seems iffy to me. Have you tried contacting them? They are very good about responding and helping you as much as they can. I remember William assisted me even on a Sunday. Try contacting them and letting them know your concerns. Hopefully they can clear this up for you.

Thanks - I have been in contact with Steve and once I realized what was wrong (thought the size was wrong, which it would be if assembled with sides and back supported by the bottom ). I left a message on his phone and sent email with pics of it all today. I just do not feel this new "redesign" is sturdy or safe. A friend on another forum has the 66 gallon and stand. She sent me pics and the sides and back rest on top of the bottom, not beside it, and there is no middle rail in the front. I imagine this stand was redesigned for the 75, but it looks weaker structurally. A pain to have the tank and sump and 5,876 boxes of equipment laid out around the den and not being able to start getting it together, but better safe than sorry!

And as a further concern with the design, the bottom sits on 6 plastic "legs", approximately 1 inch off the floor, so the sides and back are not supported by the floor - just 7 of those connectors. Since the 75 is new, I wonder if SCA even realizes how the stand design has been changed.

We have now tried attaching the back, and it does rest on the floor, so at least that is one concern addressed. Now if we can figure out the offset support rail - it has to be attached after the sump is in the stand, but that would mean screwing it into the upper rail from the inside blind with the sump in? There are no pilot holes for it in the top rail.

Oh, for instructions that actually match this stand!!!!

Stand is built. Lesson - ignore the pictorial diagrams. Look at the pieces you get and go from there. After all the drama and angst, the stand appears very sturdy. Caulking and painting inside white.

Steve of SCA has been amazingly supportive - good custoner service is a definite plus with SCA!

Nice! congrats of figuring it out. I am sure you will be help for other now!
there is getting to be a few of us on here with SC tanks...

These SCA tanks keep getting better and better, nice to have them drill it for you. I think I heard they do custom size tanks as well but it takes longer. A 72X24X20 would be a nice upgade for my living room.

yes they do before buying my 90 the other day I ask Steve about this very same tank. takes 10 weeks. but if you are not in a hurry and plan ahead 10 weeks not to bad at all...

Hey guys so I see that some on here own the 75 sca. Is that still 1" drains and 1/2' return or did they swap to a;; 1" now that they are doing the herbie system?

^I pretty sure they are 3- 1" holes now on the 75..or at least they have some in. I was between the 75 and 90 3 holer..went with the 90!

woot woot I AM AN SCA owner now...

but damn is it heavy..the 12mm glass nice and think adding alot of beauty but also weight.

Could anyone who purchased their cherry wood stands share some pictures of their stand for me? Also, their basic stand (MDF)? I'm really having a hard time deciding which direction I want to go.

I have the cherry stand. Looks just like on the website. One thing my wife doesn't like is that the nails aren't countersunk and puttied, so there is a small bump in the wood at each nailing. Noticeable if you run your hand over it or if the light strikes it just right.

I dont have that issue with my wood stand. Wonder if it is limited to the cherry they use. I have the walnut though so could be the difference...

So. I received my tank today and I will say that the build quality looks very good and I am happy with it.

But I have a question.

These tanks are supposed to be starphire front and sides. Well all 4 panes of this tank pass light the same way when looking down thru them. And from a friends tank of similar depth that was custom built starphire 3 sides this glass sure looks a lot more like standard glass than starphire. And I cant tell the difference between the 3 other panes and back which I am able to on the other tank that I have seen...

Even the picture it all looks exactly the same to me as it does in person. Any opinions?

I am happy to say I purchased the 80 gal today. Steve made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Really willing to work with you on the price. Exceeded my expectations. Got the Eco Tech package coupled with it and a solid wood (black) stand. Super pumped and cannot wait to get started. Thanks to all of you SCA tank owners for your positive feedback. Highly recommend their products and Steve is the man! BTW, 3 holes are standard with new tanks.

I was wondering the same! I have never seen a starphire tank in person. so I was going purely on trust...maybe other will chime in?

Any different looking from the side? Could it be that looking down and there is no light on the other end that is affecting it?

It all looks the same to me. And doesn't seem near as clear on edge as a similarly sized custom starphire tank that i have seen.
