SC Aquariums Owners Thread

Do you know if a Maxspect Gyre would hold in the middle of the tank on an SCA overflow? Or will it not work because of the glass inside of the overflow?

Just ordered the SCA 150 Gal "Version 2". Rimless(no eurobrace)15mm Glass 60"x24"x24" Starfire coming factory pre-drilled for a 20" Synergy Ghost Overflow and two 1" return bulkheads!
Just got email with shipping info.... I was able to sell my new 150 gal with eurobracing to a friend. I had removed the tower overflow for a synergy overflow instead, but the water level ended up being too low for my taste(3" to top). The rimless, thicker glass look also appeals more to me.

The new "version 2" tanks according to steve keep water level at 1.25" bellow the top!

I finally decided to go with SCA on my next tank. I will be making a minor upgrade from a Red Sea Reefer 170 to a SCA 24x24x20 50g tank with a custom drilled back pane. I will be attaching the new Synergy Reef Shadow Overflow and have a 1/2" return.

I am waiting on the CAD file from Steve but as soon as it's approved the tank will be in production. I was told there would be a 12 week build time. That'll give me 12 weeks to research and figure out what kind of new stand I will be going with.

Currently I plan on using a Aluminum T-slot stand that will be skinned with removable wood panels. I plan on using only 1/4" - 1/2" thick oak if I decide on staining the wood. If I decide to paint the wood, any wood will work. My desk next to the tank is oak with a gunstock finish so I might just emulate the desk.

Oak stand is 36"
MDF stand is 31"

lol

Thanks... The max I can have is 50.5" tall with tank, I have to be able to access the wall behind it from time to time :sad2:. I guess if I have to I can break out the table saw and shorten the necessary panels/doors on the stand by an inch if I have to.

Question for all you who have had/have rimless aquariums. So i got a 150 gallon sc aquarium. The pad it came with was cut wrong so sc aquariums said I could use a yoga mat thats closed cell. Well I was filling up the aquarium and noticed that one corner seems compressed more than the others however the tank was leveled and re checked multiple times. Ive owned rimless tanks before however never used a yoga mat. I could just be paranoid and everything is fine. You guys let me know.

See the white "bubble" looking lines in between the side panel and bottom panel. It appears that these are areas where the silicon does not fully cover the entire joint, although the majority of the joint does have silicon. These gaps are approximately 2mm wide, and range from 1" to 5" long. There are around 8 of these only on the bottom panel joint. Is this fairly normal?

I have something similar on my front edge only in two spots. and looked at everything VERY closely prior to my first water fill test and it and seemed fine.

Now I've had water for just over two weeks. We are slowly getting there! (Really wish I swapped the styrofoam pad for a black yoga mat or something similar, im going to try and "paint" the edge black to hide it a little better. Although since this picture from about a week ago, it has flattened out a little bit I think.

I have have that in both my aquariums which are both sc aquariums. I emailed Steve about it with my last tank and he said it's nothing to worry about. My suggestion is when comes to seams, just watch them from time to time to make sure no bubbles are growing or new ones are appearing.

So my 50g cube with oak stand arrived in New York from southern California last Wed Dec 7.It was a Christmas present for my son and we were all excited to get it set up and running.I took a vacation day to be here to accept delivery ok.great, but the driver refused to let me inspect the shipment which I thought was rather odd... not wanting to be stuck with a broken tank,I couldn't accept the delivery, disappointment all round.has anyone had this experience with the shipper?, ended up ordering a red sea 170.I contacted Steve and he said he would refund the $749,have not heard from him since.

That is odd. Kind of a &@:$ move by the delivery guy. I would complain to the shipper as well. I done think there is any excuse for that. Took delivery of mine and the driver let me look at the tank, stand everything and wouldn't even take money when I offered it to him for staying there.

Yeah that's what's supposed to happen, driver just took off
and wouldn't let me inspect
Tank is on its way back to California, waiting to hear back from Steve

I would of had the driver redeliver the next day and contact Steve to get in touch with shipping company.
Im sure on the redelivery, they would of allowed you to examine.
Sca 50 gallon cube is a great tank and their customer service is top notch.

Thanks bud,I had taken that day off work so I was extra ****ed off to have wasted a vacation day for nothing.I informed Steve as to the situation first thing in the morning and waited all day to find out what was goin on,I ended ordering a redsea 170,still waiting to hear from SC aquarium

Wow, just sounds like the truck driver was being d**k, and I would have hesitated too, but would have contacted the shipper's management immediately while he was there. When mine was delivered, the driver and his assistant took it off of the truck and up into my garage, telling me not to worry (also let me open it up and inspect it), they wouldn't charge me for it - later that month I got a bill in the mail from the shipper for "tailgate delivery". SCA took care of it, but still p*ssed me off that the shipper was so unscrupulous... :mad2:

Glad you got your tank,:thumbsup:this sucks ,I really wanted this tank and to have it travel 3000k miles and see it outside my door only to see it drive away was really frustrating, still waiting on Sc aquarium to respond:confused:

Yea I inspected mine during delivery just fine; especially since one of the little wood legs on the pallet slipped out somehow and wanted to ensure nothing cracked in transit.

In the meantime, tank is up and running 100%!! I'll put up a pic or two tomorrow.
