SC Aquariums Owners Thread

Great thread, am getting ready to get a new tank and was browsing the SCA website.

Im looking to "get simple" with a clown/rbta tank with lots of open space inside the tank to make it easier to keep the glass and tank clean.

I already have a 110g tank setup and I plan to transfer exisitng pumps, skimmer, lighting, etc over from it to the new tank.

Have read through the last 20 pages of this thread trying to glean info on what I should be ordering from SCA for best results and I think I have it down. Seems like there have been a lot of changes in the SCA offerings in the last 4 months. I didnt realize there was so much in the way of custom options from SCA until I read this thread

SCA white wood stand that comes at 36" tall
SCA 90 gallon rimless "cube" (36 24 24)
- get it drilled by SCA for a Synergy 16″ Shadow™ Overflow

does that seem to be about the optimum setup to order from SCA at this time ? Should I get anything else that works specifically with their 90 rimless setup that is best purchased through them initially ?

I'd ask the price for just the tank drilled, stand, and sump. Then just buy everything else separate. I just bought the same system but got everything and have the traditional overflow. The external overflow would definitely be nice but I got too good of a deal to pass up for the traditional set up. The stock return pump is loud and weak. The stock skimmer is a little loud but I'm pretty happy with how it's working. I had initially planned to replace that but after running it for a while I'm going to stick with it at least until the pump eventually breaks.

SCA 301 skimmer ?

SCA 301 skimmer ?

I've been running my skimmer a few days. I have been fine tuning the amount of foam/water entering the cup by turning down the amount of bubble with the blue tube.
I noticed today I had foam spilling out of the blue tube. Is this normal?

Yeah that is normal for break-in. Mine did that for a bit. I just put it closer to 1 for a while and let it run. Then adjust as it breaks in. Mine pulls some really smelly stuff now. I have a pick on my build thread. I run mine around 8" water depth

Hey guys. I'm looking to splurge some of that year end bonus on new LED lights! I am set on Kessils for their look and design. But not sure which model and how many. I have a 66G!

Thanks!

^it's been a while since looked at there lighting foot print. all depending on what you want to grow and where. but if I remember right you could get away with one of the 360We.
of course double check me..

Hi just got my 50g cube and want to up grade the skimmer.pretty small skimmer section, what skimmer upgrades have you guys used?

If you are putting it in the first section, I believe you are dealing with less than 6 inches of width. Limits the footprint a lot. Look at the eshopps line in the 120. You could also look at the ice cap k2. I settled on the axium x-120 by eshopps. I got a few pics in the eshopps 4th gen thread. Very pleased and a huge upgrade to the sca301 for me.

Ryshark, looked at the Ro 110,dont think it fits.the footprint listed doesn't include the adjustment pipe.
Robsk, gonna look into that eshopp line

I think the total foot print is about 6"x8". What are the dimensions of your skimmer section in the sump? What's bigger the skimmer section or the section where SCA shows the filtration in the sump picture

Look into the reef octopus 110sss space saver.

This, works & fits perfectly.

Not sure, was going to take that baffle out anyway, it's not doing anything,
Fiji, is that the 50 cube sump with the drain and skimmer section split in two?

Just looking at the aquamaxx cone s1.Id have to make the water level 9.5",
another member(potatohead)did this by removing the first baffle in the fuge section and gluing it to the second baffle, just wondering if 9.5" would give enough space in the sump for back siphon when the return is turned off, any ideas?

Water Levels

Water Levels

To increase the water level in my tank, do I reduce the flow from the tank to the sump?
What about increasing the water level in the pump chamber of my sump??

To increase the water level in the Tank, you need to increase the flow between rank and sump. To increase the water level in the return chamber add more water to the system.

If you have herbe overflow then increasing the height of the emergency drain will increase the water level.

You can't really increase the water level in your tank without modifying the the overflow box (Modifications, making it higher, etc...). It doesn't matter (within .5" or so) what the flow rate is... The overflow box height is going to dictate the water level in your tank. I have a 50 gal and the water level is approx 1.25" from the top. Do you want to go higher? If anything, I wish my water level was a little lower to minimize splashing etc.

I have a 90 and the water level 2" below the rim. I'm planning to make some silicone inserts to put in the teeth to raise the water level a half inch or so.
