Putting a glass cover on the bottom to cover the existing holes isn't a big deal and I wouldn't have issue with it.

Your real issue though is the eurobrace will lower your overflow a lot. You could ask him to remove the back brace if you wanted.

The above is correct, I did just that with a 150 eurobraced. Do not attempt to install synergy overflow on standard eurobrace as you will end up with a large gap from the water level to the top of the tank due to the glass eurobrace pieces. You can also ask Steve to modify them, but the level will still be a bit low IMO. Go rimless long run you will be glad you did.
 
I am not sure I would go full rimless as I LOVE having a spot to recess my screen top, sit tools on, and guard against some splashing. I would likely do a small lip on the ends to achieve that but leave the front and rear panels brace free.

Synergy overflow on the rear with 2 returns drilled at the back ends.

Thank you both for your replies, and for pointing out somethng I missed.

I asked Steve about it and here was his response:

" If we keep the euro braced, your water level will be around 2" from the
top. If you install the overflow all the way to the top (without euro
bracing), your water level is 1".
If you want a tank with higher water level, we can custom make it for you,
it will be $100 more and take 10 to 12 weeks. Also for custom make tank, we
can drilled the holes for the overflow for you as well."
 
This is what Steve sent me in December 2016 when I asked him. Basically it is 11" wide x 5.5" front to back x 22" high. It's black and blends in with the black painted background on the tank. To be honest with you I really don't notice it and don't pay any attention to having one. For the holes, I can't get to them to see and measure but I would say they are about 2" or so from the back glass. I had no issues with bulkhead placement or the like.


The overflow box is 11x5.5”, total length is 22”. Flow rate will be around 2500 gph.

My concern is that I have to carve out part of a 2x4 that was laid horizontal as part of my built in stand. Wanted to make sure I don't cut more than I need to.

Got it. The SCA stand had that area opened up... sort of like a open box built around it. It seemed supported sufficiently for having an opening in the middle of the stand.

Yeah, you can see how they built it here, so Ill just have to cut thru on the plywood once they lay it, and carve out a section of the 2x4 on the backside. Shouldn't effect the integrity of the stand at all.

With those vertical supports on either end you are good. Those along with your main horizontal will carry the weight. You will also want a solid piece along the top which also aids in weight distribution.

I thought about doing just that, installing two glass pieces on the sides only just so I can run the wavemakes beserk and not get splash.
I would lose fish before I get a top for my rimless thought.

I hate te screen or top it ruins the rimless look for me.
 
That is why I like a recessed screen. Can't see it when looking at the tank from my typical view point. I lost a few fish when I was with the BC 29 and going through the month of QT and such is enough of a pain for me to willingly have to remove a screen top when I want to work on the tank.
 
can someone share some light on SC Aquarium... Is Steve the owner and builder of these tanks? I am about to pull the trigger on one these tanks but now I have some concerns on quality of the tank. If he is solo and overwhelmed with orders, don't need a tank thats not in excellent condition not just something thrown together. thoughts?
 
Steve is the manager of the company. He is not the owner.

His tanks are mainly built in China but he has some guys on site in CA that will do special custom tanks.

His tanks are top notch. His stands currently are hit or miss as he is having issues with domestic cabinet makers living up to the quality he had with his old cabinet maker who closed shop.
 
I ordered a 150 with the rustic finish. I got it in a little over a week with no issues. The sump equip. and plumbing they provide with the system is minimal but enough to set it up if you had to. All I had to add was some hard pvc to the pump with a ball valve and setting up filters socks.
