Hello folks. Getting back into it after a long break. Just ordered my 50 PnP from SCA and am trying to figure out how to hang my light with a clean look. I've order a Sun Blaze T5 HO 24" fixture 8 bulb model and need to figure out how to hang it nicely.
I've looked online at various options but do not like that Brightsky bracket kit and other pre-fabs I've found. Any suggestions?

I used 8020 10 series in black. Once you've narrowed your profile do the same when you search for fittings. Looks complicated on the website, but once you start digging around it is simple. Also when you find your fastener scroll down and they have suggested hardware!

I am looking at a new skimmer as well. The coral box d500 seems to get pretty good reviews. Anyone have experience with it?

Unfortunately I dont have that option. They way its set up now it appears tne light is for the most part centered over the tank

Cant you mount the light to the wall behind the tank ?

Do you plan on turning the light off when you watch TV ? I dont watch TV much but the light spillage from the reef tank would drive me nuts.

I am looking at a new skimmer as well. The coral box d500 seems to get pretty good reviews. Anyone have experience with it?

I am currently leaning toward coral box.

and plan to get spare parts just in case fish-street stops selling them in the future. you can get a spare pump, needle wheel for the skimmer right now.

I am trying to figure if I should get D300 or D500.
I have a modified glass sump and it may be tight for D500. if it fits, I may get the D500.

That is one of the questions I had about the d500. It comes with the jebao dc2000 pump but on fishstreet it looks like you can use the dcs2000 as a replacement.

precisely why I want to go with D500 if that fits in my sump.
The foot print is the same, but the DCS electronics is all in the controller, not in the pump like the first generation DC pumps.

I am hoping that it is as quiet as my return pump. I got the dcp 8000 and I can't tell it is running. What size tank do you have? I have the 80 gal and I am fairly sure the d500 will fit my sump

I got a used 50 gal setup.
I think D300 will be sufficient, but don't mind overskimming.
my current tank is 60 cube running swc160 skimmer. This would be same as D700 size.

Just ordered my custom partial eurobraced 150 from Steve. Expected to ship in about 12 weeks. Gives me some time to work on the stand in the meantime. Can't wait for it to get here.

Also want to thank Soulpatch and Reef Cowboy for their feedback while I worked through the details of the new tank.

Thanks @pelphrey for the info. I'll check out your suggestion. On the topic of skimmers for the 50 PnP. Anyone ever try the ASM Mini G? The dims for it like it might squeeze into the section. ASM are plain looking and don't have all the popular features but have worked incredibly well for me in the past. I'm considering removing that one baffle all together to run a bigger/better skimmer though.

Got the ATO cabinet about finished this weekend. I have a couple spots to touch up with clear and adjust the hinges other than that I'm really happy with how it's turning out. Next is make an electrical cabinet and order in all my plumbing.

are the stands sitting directly on the floor or is there something between the bottom of the stand and the floor like rubber footing or felt pads?

So my tank arrived last night (150 gal), and it looks phenomenal. Unfortunately during delivery, long story short, one of the pvc pipes slipped thru, got rested on, and wedged/gouged the bulkhead hole.

I've already contacted sca and Steve and their service is great. If it leaks they'll replace it.

Any advice on how to make sure this is safe and usable when i test it out? I'm hoping the gasket will cover and seal it.

Pretty much guaranteed to leak. Not even worth the time. I'd request a replacement. That's totally unacceptable.

It's not guaranteed to leak. Many who do their own holes have the blade jump on them time to time and have gouge marks. Though that said you will likely not get an acceptable seating with the gasket alone. You could put silicone and basically seal in the bulkhead. Not something ideal but would likely suffice. It will make bulkhead removal later on much more difficult but doable
