Can anyone tell me anything about this particular scallop? We just bought it at our LFS thinking it was a cleaner clam and just read that it is a scallop. Any ideas?? He's done some jumping around too. Thanks! the picture of it is in our gallery i cant figure out how to get the picture into the post

possibly a Chlamys of some sort. feeds off debris swirled up from other fish digging in the sand or substitute some plankton food. hope this helps.

Is it similar to a flame scallop? I've been doing some reading and not finding anything positive about them living in captive aquariums at all. Any input is appreciated.

Feed it phytoplankton as if it were a clam and try to position it where it can't leap into another specimen. It used to be hard to keep any shellfish. Readily available phyto has made a big difference; good luck to you.

Scallops by and large, no exceptions that I know of, die within 3-6 mos of starvation.

They are intense filter feeders. Also need a lot of light except for the edible commerical species harvested for shellfish which come from a bit deeeper water.

The record I know of for a flame scallop was 13 mos. It was in a tank of gigas, derassa and crocea, and a lot of plankton fed plus excellent lighting.

Scallops don't require lighting, as they rely entirely on filter-feeding. They also need a lot of food - lots of plankton.

Not saying it's impossible, but I have yet to hear of anyone keeping them alive long-term. It would be particularly difficult in a 29 gallon...

True, as far as true scallops are concerned, the one marketed as a 'flame scallop' is actually a clam, and does mantle, and does require good lighting,

true scallops are only filter feeders and feed on phytoplankton and plankton.
