Scandinavian / Japanese Style Reef Tank

Awesome tank, really awesome.
Still busy reading your thread just wanted to ask you a question. When you silicone the base of your rock work do place them down or keep them up? If you place them down, does the silicone not stick to the surface? If you dont place then down, how do you get the silicone level so the rock is level?

Thanks

Thanks for the good comments :)
In order for this to work it needs the bottom of the silicone to be totally flat. The way we did it is: We put 1 sheet of newspaper on a horizontal surface. Placed silicone on the places of the rock where it would touch the ground and then let it rest on the newspaper. Waited for approximately 24 hours (time that needs to harden fully) and we took off the newspaper. There will be a small part of the newspaper stuck on the silicone foot.. dont worry - it will dissolve once you put it in the tank and will not harm the aquarium. What is IMPORTANT is to use silicone for aquarium.. not the regular one as it contains toxins that are slowly released in the water column.

Hope this helps

Toxic Neon

Toxic Neon

Hello everyone,

It has been over 4 months since the last time I posted an update to all you my friends concerning the tank. Reef Central is like an addiction.. sometimes you are forced to take a break for various reasons but you always get back to your old habits. But the most important is that I am here and I am here to stay :lolspin:

The tank has been doing very well ever since our Danish brother from another mother (Peder "“ RC: Pederreefnerd) started suggesting a recovery plan. Not because he is one of our best friends but this guy is simply an live reef encyclopaedia with years of experience that enable him to give advice worth gold. He has been the reason why we can now enjoy a well-functioning stable reef.

Last night when I came back from work I put a glass of wine, some music on and sat in front of the tank. Was it the music? Was it the wine? Was it the tank itself I am not sure but I got the urge of sharing with your what I was seeing. An attack of toxic neon splashes all throughout the tank as the 4 Radion were set on full royal blue colours taking the best out of the corals. So relaxing and harmonious. So peaceful and balanced.

Hope I have captured that feeling in this 5 minutes footage.
This video is dedicate solely to our friend Peder (RC: Pederreefnerd) without the support of whom we would never have been able to enjoy our investment. (you can follow his amazing tank on: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2277379

Thank you my friend.

Your tank is looking wonderful. I am so glad that you stuck to reefing in spite of all your early disappointments. Now your hard work is rewarded with an excellent looking tank that is growing and healthy.

Congratulations!

So Proud!

So Proud!

We are so so so so so so so so proud!

Advanced Aquarist, the number one international website on reef tanks not only discovered the video i made a couple of weeks ago but they also posted it on their front page as another "Danish beauty".

Only 2 Danish aquariums have been shown in the history of this website. The first and by far the best of our good friend Peder and now ours.

We went international !!!! A sincere thank you to Leonard Ho, the man behind the article and to support and help of all you guys and girls without which we would never have been able to make a healthy reef.

This one goes out to all of you! :bounce2:

Its good to be recognized your tank has taking a long journey to get to this point. Great job of learning what things you needed to change to get to this point.

Wow, you have come a long way! That latest video is amazing. I was following along closely at the beginning of your reefing journey but had not checked in to your thread in a year. I am very happy to catch back up and see how awesome your tank is doing. One of my all time favorites!

Dinos, followed your build thread and I am very happy you have stabilized your beautiful tank, very impressed with your attention to details. Also a big THANKS for sharing your ups and downs, I have had reef tanks from dual 10 gals to 90 all LPS and softies, your build has me re-thinking layout and I am incorporating several of your ideas into my next tank, 40 gal breeder for DT with 30 gal sump/refugium, Thanks Again for sharing.

Luis
