Schooling fish for 100 gallon tank

Realistically there aren't any schooling fish that will practice this in captivity. For fish that will hang out together in a group look into anthias. IMO one of the best options. They are generally peaceful(stay away from bartlett's because they normaly don't allow each other to live) and will stay fairly close together if there are enough. Lyretails, resplendents, dispars, and ignitus anthias are good choices. The lyretails do get 5" long, so you wouldn't be able to keep as many of them as you would the others.

I've had a single lyretail for the last 10 months in my tank and its by far my favorite in the tank. I am in the process of setting up a 315g upgrade where I will be adding 6 more lyretails. As far as hardy.....in the time I've had her, I went thru a battle with ich. I chose to treat the fish in the tank with kick-ich and increased feeding with garlic and vitamin enriched food. Definitely one of more hardier fish out there.

Lyre tail it is. How many could I put in the tank? Btw I have bout 15 inches left of fish.

Thats a tough one to say because the one I have was not even 2" when I got her and now she is easily 3-3.5" and that growth was when she was in a 39g tank. Now she's in an 80 gallon tank and seems like she's still growing. Be prepared to increase how much you feed.....mine is a pig. Eats everything that goes in the tank.

If you think you're using a 'formula' of inches of fish per gallon... Forget it! It doesn't work!
Far too many variables involved, not to mention many people can't agree on, how to measure fish (tail length included?)

the males can be pretty aggressive towards other fish in the tank. I bought a male with the female and he beat on everything I had. I finally had to take him back to the lfs. They said they very rarely stock the males for that reason. You might have better luck since the tank is bigger than what I originally had them in but I think 1 male and 2 female would be good or just get 3 females.

I like the variable in color so ya 1 male and 2 females.

+1 on a lyretail trio. I have had good luck with them so far. You may try picking up 3 females to start with as the most dominate one will morph into the male of the group over time. On a side note these fish eat a TON. I bet you could feed your tank 100 times a day (hypothetically) and they would still eat on the 100th feeding.

Go with all females to start. You will get 1 male eventually, and then you also don't need to worry about any of your females being more aggressive/dominant than the current male. 2 males won't work unless the tank is big enough and there are enough of them to go around(females).

Mine started to change within two weeks and was finished within two months if I remember correctly. It was actually really cool to watch the transformation. If I had to do it over I'd do it the same way again, all females to start.
