YAY! i got my 125 today, and ive currently started my cycling. Im so excited i got the new fish jitters. So ill be getting fish in the next few months or so. I was curious of some nice schooling fish that are out there. Particularly Bang. Cardinals, i really dont like chromis at all. So any ideas on schooling fish besides chromis?

Are you opposed to all damsel fishes? If not try some yellow tail damsels(chrysiptera parasema) though, make sure it is parasema and not the similiar looking cyanea. The latter is the blue devil(still with yellowtail but has black head spotting) but very aggressive. Allen's Damsel i hear is a good choice as well but i think they are special order only, atleast in my area.

Threadfin anthias are really pretty as a school and can be grouped but, usually as a hareem.

Bangai as i understand dont really school in tanks, they just... well disperse. Mostly it seems they stay together in petstore aquaria only because they are crammed in a 5 1/2 gal space. Im not sure on pajama personality though

Unfortunately with salty stuff the fauna that does school in nature grows to large to accomodate their schools in anything but public aquaria... unless you have $30-50,000 laying about hehe.

Heres a short list to avoid putting more conspecifics together: most damsels, gobie, blennies, tobies & other boxfish.

Threadfin cardinals or Orange Line cardinals Should do well. They don't get that big 2" - 3" and they will school and mate in your tank. I prefer Threadfins over Orange lines though. I just think they look better.

Here's another vote for the threadfin cardinals, a school of these is just a beautiful sight. I'm going to do a school of 12 in my 180.

just got 4 Bartletts Anthias and they are schooling already. I think Anthias have become a favorite fish of mine now.

Yeah I would go for the anthia's. I think they look nicer with their color. I am actually looking to get a harem for my 125. I'm thinking the sqamapinius lirytail.

Lyretails are supposed to be the easier ones to keep. Just see if you can get some that are eating. They can be pretty finiky when it comes to aclamation. I personaly paln on having 7 for my tank but thats just me.
