Schooling Fish

Frankly, there really aren't any attractive fish that will school/shoal in most hobbyist size tanks. Sorry, guys but the Apogon cardinals look like tetras to me. If I wanted a school of tetras I'd a stuck with FW. ;) Then again, different drumbeats and what not.

You know, I used to feel exactly this way myself, but the Apogon leptacanthus in particular have really grown on me, although the other Apogons do indeed seem to me to be awfully tetra-like, what with the horizontal stripes and the tetra-ish shape. The shape of the leptacanthus is a bit different from the others.

I would stay away from the Two-bar chromis. They are a pretty cool looking fish (started with 5 and lost only one in 6 months), but mine do not school at all. The only time they get near each other is when food is in the water or they are establishing territory
