Not one flake even hit the ground yet and they Closed all the Schools already!
Geesh what would they do here if it snowed all the time like everywhere up north, It's crazy IMO

My husband and I were just laughing about that.

I spent my high-school years in Wilton, Connecticut (moved from Nashville at age 15). Imagine my dissapointment when the first snow hit up there and we had to go to school anyway. LOL We had snow on the roads for 3 months of the year. Schools buses had these huge chains on. Don't think in 3 years we ever had a "snow day".

it doesnt snow like this normally hence the school closings. ever since that snow back in 2003 or so, they are over cautious. they had a bunch of kids get stuck on busses for hours.

well, just so you guys know, down south here, the road is already white. my driveway is slick! they say we should expect 6" here.

Thats what they invented studded snow tires for. :D

Of course, they are Illegial in Tennessee (or so I've been told).

Be careful. I hate taking that route heading to Chattanooga. Especially when its snowing. A couple weeks ago it was pretty slippery up there! My truck isn't the best as the weight ratio isn't evenly spread and throwing some 80lb concrete bags in the bed seems to only help somewhat.

they closed our offices, so I get to stay home and play in it. Not that I could have gotten there. we got 4" last night. it drifted up in someplaces and was almost 8" deep outside the garage door. the oldest and I are going to go make an igloo and some snowmen.

Kind of amusing. This was nothing. I've had this kind of snow in a couple hours in Illinois. I got to work faster today than I do on a normal day.

Being a Chicago native, I found the closings and all amusing when I moved up 5+ years ago.

There is a bit of reality to consider however. First and foremost, up North since there is much more snow, they have many more plows and salt spreaders. 6" of snow is no big deal if the plows can get to roads often.

Also, TN has more hills than most of the North. A 5 degree slope makes all the difference in car control.

Last of course is the human factor. TN natives just do not have the practice. They seem to not realize going to slow can some times be worse than a decent cautious speed. Good luck going up that next hill buddy.

I just got back from Brentwood and the Roads were just wet and there was no traffic at all (Deserted) to say the least everyone stayed home. It may be more hazardous this eve once the sun goes down and it all freezes though.
Great Snowman snow though i hate even touching it!

So once we got out in the yard, it was a bit deeper than I thought. 8" or deeper in most places. no wonder schools are closed here. the littlest one has had a fever due to strep and we ran out of ibuprofin so I had to go to walmart and get more. Main roads were fine. still white and slushy by my house but we are on a state highway so they will get it cleared. the darn plow has put a good pile on the end of my drive. I will have to shovel it later today as I barely made it back into the drive.

nope, the Mrs is not mad at me so I get to sleep in the house. however it was surprisingly warm in there and with a sleeping bag, one would be nice and cozy. here is a good shot of my neighbor and two of the boys. you can see the entrance was long to keep the wind out. we had a second exit on the other end we used to remove the snow that coudl be closed off. all that said, it was big enough to sleep the three boys easily.

That was good packing snow, I noticed it when i brushed it off the car. Looks like the second round has fizzled out. Nice job none the less, Be careful the county dosn't raise your property taxes LOL

We used to get single snowfalls in Ithaca that were as deep as your plowed pile. That was a royal PITA to deal with.

I told my Swedish colleagues out here about the closing and they had a good laugh. They don't even take the plows out of the garage until it is at least 15 cm deep around here and the streets and sidewalks are covered in packed snow and ice all winter long. People just go about there business, though, no big deal.
