schuran jetstream 1

hi,

i was looking around on your site and i noticed that the schuran jetstreams have dropped sharply in price and they are now in the clearance section, which is a good thing, i suppose. is there any reason for this? will you no longer be supporting parts for them or selling them?

many thanks!

HI,

The Euro to Dollar exchange was just getting too high. Originally we sold those for 399, then 449, then 499, due to exchange rates. They just didn't sell well at 499, too expensive and I believe our next shipment would of been around 549 or higher. The Euro Dollar just keeps going up. So we just didn't see a market for them.

So we decided to sell our existing stock at below cost. We can still order parts for them and if the Euro dollar ever drops back, we might pick them back up.

Great price. Before I place my order, can you tell me the dimensions of a 5# and 10 # CO2 tank? Space is tight in my stand, and need to make sure I can squeeze in both the reactor and tank.

I've been told that the Jestream 1 can't keep up with the calcium demands in a 200g tank (I have a 180). What feedback have you received from your customers? Is this true? Should I go with a Jetstream 2?

Hmmm... not sure where you saw that, but it's not good info. They can keep up with much larger systems. Maybe you have it mistaken for the smaller Knop C. But even it can maintain a larger system, it would just require the chamber to be refilled more often. The Jetsream 2 would be way over kill on your 180, even if it's loaded with clams and SPS. I picked one up for my pretty heavily stocked 180, but I still need to set it up.

Make sure you get the larger media for it... PA has the Gen X brand which I've read good things about.

Hi,

I completely agree. Sch Jet 1 would easily handle 200g system. On ratings, it's probably equal to a GEO 624.

We had a Jet 1 on our 500g coral system couple years ago, it was a holding system, so not always a good test, but it easily keep the calcium up in that system.

Thanks for the response, guys. Regarding my comment of a JS1 not keeping up with a 200g, I read it on an older thread. As you said, CATIII, the owner went through the CO2 tank very quickly. Perhaps that's what he meant by "unable to keep up"?

Jason: I'm ready to order. You have a great price. But, can you tell me the dimensions of your 5# and 10# CO2 tanks that you sell? I can't order unless I know that all this will fit in the remaining real estate I have in my stand.

Also, I've read that the JS1 requires the use of a peristaltic pump to get a consistent effluent rate. Is this what you've been finding? How well will the reactor work with a regular pump.

One of the best SCHURAN Jetstream-1 Calcium Reactor, if you set it up !!!

Is it really that hard to set up? Why so?

I'm researching as I type :) Do these reactors require frequent warranty service? Are the parts available in the US? I believe the pump is an Eheim, correct?

Jason: If I needed service or parts, how easy or hard would it be for you to order the parts?

I'm asking about the JS 1 because the people who have them really like them, but I am open to other options.

Which Geo would you recommend for a 180g, and that would fit into a footprint of 20" x 7" (including CO2 tank). Max height of the reactor would be 31".

Here's what I like about the JS:
easy to dial in
No need to tinker with it too much
it recycles unused CO2

Here's what I don't like about the JS:
It's hard to get service
Some people need to use a peristaltic pump to get a consistent effluent rate, but others don't.

What features about the GEO do you like?
What don't you like?

Hi,

I'll get you some height measurements on the Co2 tanks Monday.

On the Schuran, most people use Maxijet 1200 or Aqualift to feed them, I think we had used the Aqualifter without a problem.

We have sold a lot and very few issues with them. The few people that needed parts, was usually some type of accicent and something got broke. I think we have only ordered parts for them 3 or 4 times in the last several years.

That said though, Schuran customer service is not "customer friendly". They don't like to answer any questions or problems, they'll tell you to talk to your dealer. We can special order just about any part, but they do even give us a hard time, they don't like to ship small packages international. Our last customer we ordered a part for had to wait about a month to get his part and after shipping and the part, ended up costing him 100 bucks.

So your odds of needing factory parts are probably about 1%, but if you do, that does make this closeout special deal much less attractive because of the wait and cost involved.

When Schuran first came to the States, I think it was far superior to all the other reactors out there. I think GEO in the last couple of years has really strepped up in quality and performance and really a GEO today, should be as easy, if not more easy to setup and run then Schuran.

Thanks for the reply, Jason. I'm about halfway through EWAN's JS1 thread, and there is a lot to learn! Good to hear that it can be fed via MJ1200 or aqualifter. I looked at the GEO, but its footprint is too big for my space. My max footprint would be 20"x7". I think the GEO is 9" wide. That's too bad.

Do you have any other suggestions for good reactors that would fit in my space?

A local to me has or had one, the thing fell apart, the tube crack and it was less then a year old. Shuran did nothing for them and wouldn't even return emails or calls. I believe the stor that sold him it no longer will carry them over it too.
There pretty, thats it.
Erik

Good news: I remeasured the space in my stand, and I can fit a GEO 618. I can *barely* fit the GEO 624 (assuming the dimensions listed on the GEO website are accurate).

So, between the JS1, Geo 618, and Geo 624, which would you guys recommend for a 180g?

I love my Jetstream 1. I used it on my 300g and it kept my parameters solid...now, I'm using it on my 240 g system.
For me, the key of using these kind reactor is the use of peristaltic pump.

good luck Tbone!

Thanks. good to know. How long did it take you to get it dialed in? Also, have you ever had a need for any type of service? I've read from other Schuran owners that getting service is almost impossible.

Hawaiianwargod,
What brand peristaltic pump are you using? I am looking for one for my calcium reactor.

I'm using a cole and parmer peri pump.
