Schuran PICO reactor

I have a Schuran PICO that has been set up for about 6 months now and the media does not seem to be disolving like I expected it to. I have the feed "T"d off of my Mag 12 return pump and a steady stream of effluent out of the blue line from the reactor. The small valve from the feed line is wide open. Does it sound like it is set up right or do I need to do some adjusting to the flow. I also have the co2 set at around 20 bubbles per min. and the reactor is on a timer to run 12 hrs a day.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as my SPS aren't showing any faster growth than before I had the reactor.

reefeater,

Is the Pico keeping your CA and kh where it's supposed to be? If so I probably wouldn't worry too much. If it isn't keeping up with your reef, you have to know what ph the effluent is. You have to start out with a ph under 6.5 for the media to dissolve.

With my JS1, I started out with Schuran's recommended setting initially, then tweaked it from there. It's pretty much a balancing act with these reactors, but once you find the sweet spot, you pretty much leave it alone. Adjusting the flow or the bubble count is kind of a toss-up. I adjusted the flow thru the reactor because that was the easiest thing to manipulate. I keep mine at a ph of 6.4 and it works great! Each system has unique requirements, so be patient and make small changes, observe and test. It may take a few weeks to find the setting that is right for your reef.
