hi guy's;
i picked up a red with green stripes scoly today, its a real stunner but am a bit concerned my lights may be a bit much for it?
i have x2 250wt 20.000k halides+x4 55w 50/50 pc's+x2 36w t8 actinics, the scoly is on the bottom of the tank in a low flow area, but is getting full light as i dont have a shady spot for him, am i right i thinking that red scolys are the same as red trachy's and prefer shady or lower light area's? do you guy's have them in light or shade? thanks.

here's a quick (and crappy) pic I just took (don't mind the scratched glass ;) ).

RicksReefs do you know if that is any particular type of scolymia? I am so jealous. I want one so bad, tried one, and it passed away- the flesh almost melted off of it. However when i got it it was gaping and I think it just couldn't survive acclimation (even after temp\drip acclimating for ~1 hour or so.. I think it was too fresh to getting used to the LFS water)

The ones I have seen seem to be very flat and not quite volcano shaped but i want to find one shaped like yours.. Is it a maturity thing possibly?

Beautiful, beautiful picture and color. Looks like lava running down a volcano!

Thanks. I believe it's a Scolymia australis. I got it from a LFS as a dieing 1/4" strip of flesh about a year ago. now it eats a cube of mysis twice a week and is always in feeding mode.

I kept light-green scolymia in direct sunlight, 6" deep tank, this autumn-winter only (southern window, Canada). Loves the light.

About flat vs. volcano shape - in LFS mine (damaged) was flat, few months later - volcano shape:

It could be flat, if the skeleton was buried in the sand or in the big crevice in the LR.
