Scooter Blenny in a 24g

I have a 24g Nano cube and was given a small scooter blenny. I understand that small tanks are not ideal for this fish. As of yet, I do not have much of a clean up crew, so there is a lot of 'crap' in the sand for him to eat. What is your experience with this?

I think that they are fine in that size tank provided the tank is established and has a good pod population. Having a fuge will accomplish this. They aren't as picky as mandarins and will take prepared foods, but if you want longevity make sure you have pods.

I disagree, I dont think he will be too happy in there. it will decimate whatever pod population you have such a small tank. they can take prepared foods, but will eventually die if they dont have a heavy pod population to feed from. How old is your tank? If it was just set up this year I would start to look for a replacement home for it.

My post says the same thing, nothing to disagree with here. You need pods and a way to keep the fish from eating them all...hence, the need for a refugium. Dragonettes don't do well unless they are in well established tanks with pods and a refugium grows pods. They will take other foods though but you can't rely on that, they still need a healthy copepod population.

I agree that 24 gallons may be too small; not enough of a pod population to sustain the blenny happily, plus the fact that scooter blennies get to be quite large and will outgrow a 24 gallon tank.

you would need one up and runnning, it takes a while for them to mature enough to support a healthy pop of pods.
