Does anybody have any experience or insight on Scooter Blennies?
I stopped by fishy business and they had one and I was just curious about the care level...
Marine depot says 80 gallon tank and all difficult to keep...

Scooters are cool. Very easy to take care of, as long as you have enough pods for them to feed on.

It's difficult to keep them well fed. They need a large established system...even if you can ween them on cyclopeeze or mysis, it may not be enough. This fish is also very suceptible to harassment, especially by pseudochromis, wrasses, and actual blennies. The scooter "blenny" is actually a dragonet, so it will not graze on algae...it feasts on pods, and needs lots of them to survive.

i had one for a few years in a 40 breeder. it was with my sponges and gorgd and that thing was swarming with pods due to my phyto dosing

That was one of the 1st fish I ever got and it died 9 months later.

I went to the pet shop and they said it was a good easy fish. They said all they did was dump brine in the tank and it ate. Apparently when I bought it, it was starving. It is hard to tell if it is starving because the only sign is its belly will be caved in. Its belly is difficult to see hidden under its fins so make sure you watch the scooter swim around in the pet shop for a long time before you buy it. The whole fish including his chest can look fat while his belly can be shrunken. The fish will eat brine but not enough, its like a mandarin and needs a well established system where it can eat all day. Many times mine was unable to swallow the brine.

Other than that he is a very cool, cute fish to have with lots of personality.

edit I see you only have a 20 gal tank. So be careful with your decision.

Brine doesn't have enough nutritional value to sustain a fish like the Mandarin or Scooter. PE Mysis is a much better alternative, if you can get them to eat it.
