Scopas and Powder Blue

Which one should I add first to my tank? Im not asking about what size tank they need or anything so don't even start the whole tang police thing. I've already got the scopas in a qt tank but need to know if I should set up another qt tank for the powder and then add him first.

I think I'll just set up another 20 gallon qt and let it cycle and then get the blue tang and a pair of firefish.

Try putting the powder in first and then the scopas. The powder's usually have a harder time adjusting and they come down with stuff really easy. If you can get him in solid, then throw in the scopas, IMO.

I really don't want to just add the powder without watching him in a qt for a few weeks so I'm going to have to set up a qt tank for him and let it cycle for a few weeks. Unless two tangs in a 20 gallon would work for 2-3 weeks. The only thing is if I added the powder I'm worried since the scopas has been in there for a week he might be kinda mean twards him.

I agree with the powder first thing. IMO powder blue is harder to adjust too and will take longer for it to get use to your tank and your food. Scopas is much more forgiving in terms of adjustment and is much hardier than powder blue.

So should I just set up a new qt and let it cycle and then get the powder and make sure hes ok and then put him in the main tank and then the scopas awhile after? I'm just wondering what my scopas would do if I added the powder blue to that tank with him now so I can save time of letting another tank cycle.

Try to get them in difference sizes. A lot of keeping tangs together is having size differences.

If your going to have problems between the two tangs it will probably be from the PBT as they can be aggressive.

i would just add the scopas and then add the power blue next once is done going throught the qt and like others say just get it bigger then the scopas and it will hold its own

yeah that could work, getting tangs 3 inches or more in the more delicate species is better anyway have better track records

Well It's going to be like 4-6 weeks before I get him anyways. Would it be ok to get a pair of firefish when I get him and put all three in a 36 qt for 2-4 weeks?

Do you think the tang would still carry ich if I had him come frm the whole seller and have the lfs just call me when he comes in like I did when I got my clowns. That way the tang wouldn't be in the fish store's tanks and just the wholesellers.

I just want to put my 2c in that I'd add the PBT last, and just try nad find a really helathy specimen at the store. PBT are very territorial, I added mine early (2nd fish) and he bullied many other fish, and was a total PITA to every fish I added to the tank.

If you have any other questions, PM me, I probably won't see this thread again for a while, cause I'm not on RC much anymore :)

You need to QT the fish reguardless of where it comes from. The fish can still carry ich or other diseases reguardless of who is holding the fish. Now if your LFS has tanks with a lot of diseases then it's better to get the fish before they place it in their tanks but you should still QT the fish, specially a PBT as they're ich magnets.

Thats what I was thinking. The powder blues were kinda acting like king of the tank at the lfs. I thought about the scopas first since hes kinda small and they aren't known to be as mean as the powder blue.

I do order many fish from the lfs so they don't enter their tanks since once in awhile they do get an ich outbreak.

I also forgot to note that the lfs has a 55 gallon with corals in it and has had a yellow tang in the for some time now and just added one of the powder blue tangs to it and they aren't fighting. They are both around 3-4''
