Scopas Tang In Trouble...

MyMonkey

Persona Non Grata
Well, I came home to my tank just now. Looked for all inhabitants. The Scopas Tang that generally greets me was not around for some reason. I gave the tank a quick once over and no luck. Second look, and OOPS! There is the Tang stuck to the end of the MJ 1200 that is an intake for my Remora Skimmer. I reached in and was able to move him off easily. He is obviously not doing well. He has the grate imprint of the end of the little cover on his right side. He is also VERY skinny. I just saw him yesterday and he was doing fine. He has been eating everything in site. He eats the Cheato, and the calurpa I have in the tank. I also nibbles on Hair Algae.

Question: Can his skinny status be from stress induced by getting stuck to the grate? Or, is it likely that he was weakened, thus ending up on the grate?

Dadgumit.... No sign of Ick or anything else ever on him... I will add some Garlic to the food tonight. Any other suggestions?

He may have gotten stressed out, but i'm sure if he's swimming around now, with time and a little extra food he'll bounce back and be as good as new.

Well, he is not exactly swimming around. He is hanging out under an overhang now. Just hovering there. I have not seen him eat anything I feed. I give several different things but he does eat from the rocks and such all day usually. Ugh... Not sure why but thie fish has me all worried...

yeah i understand that, you may try the garlic soaking, or some TheraP food just for precaution.

Are those scopas tangs good graziers? I was really thinking of getting one....

He eats everything in the tank. I have TONS of hair algae, calurpa and cheato. He eats all that plus whatever grows on the glass. Beautiful fish as well. I hate that he is not doing well. Thanks for the input.

None of those algaes are prefered tang food, They eat nori, or its equivalent, when given the chance. Turn the lights out and leave it to recover.

Thanks Paul. LIghts are now out. I do feed Nori as well. I just now picked up an extra clip from ART. I will soak it in Garlic and add it in the morning.

Jeramy,

Hope things will go well with your tang. After he recover and start eating again, try to feed him with Spectrum Thera A+ pellets. It will fatten up your tang in no time.

john.

John.

Scott,
I have had the Tang for 2 weeks as of yesterday. Picked him up on 3/13. Not long.

John,
Thanks. I will pick up some Thera A+ Pellets today hopefully. Anyone know where they sell this locally?

Reefshop, thats what I use for my garlic supplements, i mix TheraA and garlic in a little bottle, keeps in the fridge for weeks.

I came home just now. The Tang died. It was stuck to the intake of my Emperor 400 this time. No marks other than the big bruise/sore from the grate the other day. Darnet...

Is it too soon to add another. I would rather just not even mention the loss to my wife. Not sure why the problems, so I suppose not the best of ideas. Hmm?

I came home just now. The Tang died. (sound familiar?) No really, I just flushed my Scopas Tang down the toilet. I never did get him to eat, I've had him for about two or three weeks. I have tons of macro algaes in my aquarium. Corals, my two tomato clowns, and my wrasse are all doing well. Just never got him to eat and he looked very thin. End of story.

Don

Jeramy,

how many John Le do you know? :).....btw, OH..as you already know who i am or dont know??

hint: i buy rock from you.

I got my fish from the same place you bought your clip. I don't want to say anything bad about the store, cause I think they people do a good job, I just think we had bad luck with fish.

I assumed it was you John. How are those snails doing? Or, did I give you snails? I remember the bulbs and the rock though. :)

Kermit,
I agree, I have had great luck with ART, I think we may have just picked up a few skinny ones. Mine had no ich or anything, just skinny I suppose. Thanks everyone for the info.
