Scraping Coralline - Any problems?

I have let my back glass cover with coralline and was recently thinking about scraping it off. I was wondering if there would be any ill effects from scraping large amounts of coralline off at once?

We have only scraped small amounts on the side glass and never had any problems....not sure about such a large amount. Hopefully someone will answer....we are curious too.

I also posted over in the COMAS forum and they seemed to think it would not be a problem. If I do end up scraping the back glass, I will probably try to siphon some of it as I scrape it off to partially cut down on any potential mess.

just make sure whatever coraline ends up on your corals, you blow it off. other than that, no problems

Good to know...thanks. I used a net and caught most of what I scraped.....it was a bit messy.

just be prepared to scrape some more. scraping the coraline actually releases the spores and it comes back with a vengence

Tim, I try to keep mine scraped some of the time just so you can view the tank from both sides. Depending on how much you have and how strong your current is in your tank I would siphon up as much as you could.
