Scratch removal

I recently purchased a nice size acrylic tank (used). The guy didn't have time to buff out the scratches, so he gave me the 2-part Novus stuff. He said to use it w/ an orbital buffer.

I have used the multi- grade sand paper scratch remover kit on another tank, but this tank is 240g.

Anyone have input on the 2-part Novus? How about w/ a powered buffer?

Thanks.

I've used a dremmel with a cotton disk with great success in the past. It just takes light pressure at slower speeds with lots of lube (read: polishing liquid).

Best of luck. I did the same thing with my 300, bought it used and buffed the hell out of it. I started buffing areas that were not visible (e.g. the top of the tank, not the viewing areas where my novice mistakes would be visible.

I think in the end I moved to a 4" buffig wheel on my DeWalt 3/8" drill.

If it works out post and let us know.

i just used regular old sandpaper and a sanding block on my used 225. started with 600 grit on just the deep scratches. then went to 1000, 1500, 2000 and 3000 grit. finished it up with the novus on a 6in orbital buffer. i half-assed it and it came out great! spent less than $20 on the loose sandpaper instead of the kit.

I already have the sandpaper kit from a prior project. It took me a really, really long time on a 50g. I can't even imagine what it's going to take on the 240g.

More interested in the type of buffing pad people have used.
I will definately use the sanding kit on those deep scratches.

yeah, it's a pain in the ***. my 8ft long 225g tank took about 25 hours over the course of 2 weeks. the inside was the hard part. if i couldn't climb into the tank it would have been worse. i still had bruises on my arms and chest from leaning into that thing. damn i hate acrylic!!!

lol. I really couldn't pass up this deal. I am really not looking forward to buffing the acrylic. maybe i'll just drop it off @ a shop.

part 2 works well. Just use a sander with a cotton sheet. Its not too bad as long as u have the sander!
