screen covering tank

If I build a screen to cover the tank instead of the glass tops, would I be able to place my light fixture on the screens as I do on the glass tops now?
The only screens I have seen is where the light is hanging above it or on legs on the edge of the tank.

My guess would be no--and I admit it's a guess. I have T5 lighting and it gets pretty warm/hot. I'd be afraid of melting the plastic bird netting, gutter-guard, screening or whatever you are using to make your screen out of. My T5 light fixture is on brackets that holds it a few inches above the top of the tank.

Depends on what the material is made from, but I'd recommend setting the light fixture up a bit.

The glass protects the lights from splash. If you put a screen over the water, you'll need to raise the lights to keep it out of splash range/salt creep.

I wouldn't try it either. I imagine that it shouldn't be that difficult to find legs that could raise your lighting a little.

no don't place your fixture right on top. A couple inches is reccomended ( 3-4") so the fixture doesn't get splashed as suggested above.
