screws for reef dragon?

Can I by chance buy some new screws for the RD pump for the alphas?

Mine were stripped so easily already that I can't turn the upgrade kit on (day 1).

Hi,

Unfortunately I do not have any. You can contact Proline Aquatics directly at 604-278-1474 and they might have some extras. Out of curiosity, how did you manage to strip that thing? They're screwed into plastic, and shouldn't need a hardly any pressure at all to loosen or tighten them.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Those screws were insanely hard to screw into the white piece.

I used a flat screwdriver and then a phillips screwdriver and they still wouldn't go in (already stripped the screws, not the plastic by now). I got it on, I used a wood file because it has a larger edge to it so it could fit in the larger slot in the screw. Bypassed the stripped area.

I'd rather use a screwdriver and a flat head screw and put it into a piece of wood over taking putting them into this pump.

I hope it's right since you said it shouldn't normally be that hard. I put it together the way it came apart. It still (the white piece in front) is not completely down but it's very close so I'm done with it and will use it as is.

Just as long as it's safe to run. It looks like the screw is made out of the same material inside and out so it should be safe to place in the tank I'd imagine.

edit: I've been working on it for close to 3 hours now.

I honestly think you may have cross threaded the screws going into the housing, in which this will strip out the threads in the white housing as well. The screws should go in with very little to no force needed at all when using the appropriate sized tip screwdriver. If they went in really hard, then most likely the screws went in at an angle, meaning they were indeed cross threaded. If you go and pull the screws out now it will most likely strip out the threads on the white housing.

It's in all the way now so it should be fine, correct? I went and grabbed the first screwdriver I used and it looks fairly small. I remember a piece just broke off and then it started to strip. I'd think it is just the screwdriver may have been too small like you mentioned. Either way it went in very hard afterward.

The upgrade kit is a fair amount shorter than the old version (white piece) so I wasn't sure if I should screw it on all the way tight or if it needed to be left spaced apart from the pump a bit to make up for the loss of space. I noticed it still had the notches in the bottom to go over the black piece so I screwed it in all the way.

Is this all correct? If so I'm going to plug it in and let it run.

edit: Just looked at the pump. The screws are flat all the way around. I'm sure they are in straight and not cross threaded.

If anyone else is looking at this thread.... I'm just an idiot when it comes to assembling most things that require the use of tools.

I had the pump running already and the alpha series skimmers are amazing to me so far.

Pictures explain easier. Does it look ready to use to you? Is it on correct?

Screws are all flat so I think they're straight in then:

I actually took it apart again. I called proline and the guy I spoke to was helpful and is sending new screws.

I asked him about the O-ring and where it should be and I think I had it in the wrong place so I moved it here (where I thought he said it goes).

Is this correct now with the O-ring?
