SCUBA @ Destin FL

Has anyone ever dive in Destin Florida? I know there are a couple of boats down which might make for some nice diving. Any pics or stories?

I have inlaws there, and have tried to go diving every time I visit, but something always comes up. Interested to hear this as well. I do remember seeing a pic of a snorkeler near the Okaloosa bridge...with a hammerhead in the same photo.

I'm from Pensacola, Fl and do a lot of diving out of there. There are some pretty good wrecks scattered all around. And some natural limestone if you go way out. I've done some snorkeling on the jetties in Destin and its always nice! The world's largest artificial reef , The Oriskany, is in between Pensacola and Destin. Its an awesome dive.

It sits in 210ft of water. The flight deck is at about 140 ft and the island comes up to 90 ft. The island is big though so there is plenty of diving without going out of recreational limits.

I have dove boats (Bart and such) and jetties in PCB, how does that compare to Destin? In particular snorkeling the jetties (thinking of the kids here).

I briefly worked for a Discovery Dive World a dive shop just north of Destin in Valparaiso. I you ever have any local questions Bob the owner there can usually give you daily updates on the conditions of any popular dive sites and in most cases set you up with a local as a guide; usually for the cost of gas.
