sea apples?

FYI, running Phosban and carbon in a single reactor is a waste IMO. Carbon is used up rather quickly and is cheap, but Phosban can last for months.

ummm, i replace both carbon and phosban every 3 weeks, i would love to run them separately but i just dont have the space in my sump :(

GraviT: wow I had no idea phosban lasts so much longer =X I've been wasting! crap! now i know!

another thing you can do is just put phosban and carbon in different micron bags, and then change out the carbon one more frequently.

either way you should be rinsing out the phosban whenever carbon's done too, so it doesn't collect detritus.

ok guys, here are some observations and updates

* so i got a small sea apple. its reddish in color with yellow tube feet.

* while bringing it home it got all shriveled and elongated

* i put it in a beta container with some phyto and did the drip acclimatization.

* i wanted to keep it in the QT but it didnt look like QT would be a good place for it, so i put it in the main tank (the apple came from the display tank of a shop and has been there for a few months) (in hind sight i shouldnt have done this)

* it got back its usual round shape within couple of hours (later on research showed that round shape is an indication of stress and the healthy shape should be a bit elongated, more like a fat small cucumber )

* the first couple of days the apple moved just a lil bit but it didnt extend its tentacles for feeding (even when i added live phyto to the tank)

* after 2 days the apple flipped (the head went where the bottom was)

* yesterday i saw the feeding tentacles for a little bit

* later that night i realized that the feeders come out in the night time after the lights go out.

* so i fed it after the light went out by adding phyto to the tank. and viola! out came red feeder tentacles (but they retract the moment theres light in the room, dunno if thats normal or if the apple is still a bit stressed)

* now its the correct shape (accordingly to some online research), looks more like a little sac lying on its side with some stuff inside it to give it a rounder shape.

so its been four days and so far things look promising. i will keep everyone updated on the progress.

GreshamH, what would you suggest for the sea apple? which species of phyto? i have some culture of tetra as well. would that work? i also feed cyclo-peeze and the arctic pods these days but those i think are definitely too big for the sea apple (?)
i was adding arctic for the mandarin but he doesn't eat it, so i would probably stop. i got a bottle of the phyto feast other day, havent tried it yet.
any help is appreciated :)
