sea cucumber care?

Hey everybody,

Interetsed in getting a sea cucumber and just wanted to get everybodys advice or comments on keeping one.

I have a 75 gallon reef tank with about a 2 inch sand bed. It's Tropic Eden
miniflakes sand.

Thanks.

I never had problems with them. In fact, I bought one, and ended up with 4. As long as there is food on the sand bed for them, they happily ingest the sand and poo out little clean sand pellets :)

Great sand cleaners.
The black ones always seem to be mobile, where the Tiger Tails seem to like to find a spot and anchor. The filter feeder types will find a place on the glass or return spout and stay seemingly forever there.
Oh, and if you have closed loop plumbing, put signs on all your intake strainers for the idiots. (Ask me how I know this) :)

I've had a black one for a year and a half in my 120g with the same sand (miniflakes). You want as much sand area as possible so it gets enough to eat. Mine takes in sand all day long. I've noticed it doesn't seem to feed where I have a few patches of cyano. Mine was 6 inches when I got it and is well over 12 inches when stretched out now. Don't think I'd have a sand bed without one. If you get one keep a close eye on it for the first few days to make sure it makes the transition to your tank ok. Not sure how toxic they are if they die, but I don't worry about it. Mine went right to work eating sand and seems to be thriving.
