So I picked up this Sea Cucumber from a friend to use in my refugium to help clean the sand. But he has not moved from the rock he attached himself to 3 days ago. I tried to move him but he is attached real good. As I was reading up on them a little I saw where some cucumbers are toxic when they die.
Is this one of those cucumbers or is it just a regular one?
And also is it normal for these guys not to move for days at a time? <a href="http://s1099.photobucket.com/user/gunsnfknroses/media/20140721_205452.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g392/gunsnfknroses/20140721_205452.jpg" border="0" alt="Sea Cucumber photo 20140721_205452.jpg"/></a>

Yes, I have heard stories of cucumbers not moving for weeks. And yes, most cucumbers will poison a tank if the remains are not removed in time.

Any kind of id, or is this just your run of the mill cucumber?
I put him in my fuge for now. Didn't want him to get under something in the display and croak.

Looks like the standard run of the mill, I've had one in my tank for over 2 years now and does a great job on the sandbed at night.

Ya, it does look pretty basic. I say leave it in the fuge for now and if it lives after a while, put it back in the main display.

I have a couple of cucumbers (that look similar to yours) who don't get out during the day, but I see them sifting the sandbed at night. Then I have another that has not moved from his current spot since I got him in early May. Once I thought maybe he was dead and tried to move him, but then he started moving and went right back to the same spot. I guess he's figured out that hanging by the overflow provides all the goodies he needs!

I used a piece if airline tubing to detach him from the rock he's been clinging to and put him in the middle of the sand bed last night. This morning he is right back in the same spot on the rock he has been since day one. So the good thing is, he is alive and mobile. So I'll just let him be for a little while longer.
